Pool of Perspectives - 2030 (2025)
Printed ceramic tiles, Miroor. Sharjah Biennale 16, 2025
Taken the form of large architectural interventions and staged environments. Reflecting on the wave of construction of mega national projects in the region, the work commissioned for Sharjah Biennial 16 departs from an ‘empty pool’ as an architectural site of malfunction and failure, transforming it into a stage for an imagined living future. Pool of Perspectives - 2030 (2025) is a tiled void with a classical ceramic mural in the style of futuristic CGI renders of unrealised structures, while referring to the legacy of Portuguese colonial history in Sharjah. The work uses optical illusion techniques borrowed from classical Portuguese Azulejo tiles—an established art-historical form for creating a permanent image to commemorate epic moments from the past.
